The stunning mountainous village of Vizitsa is one of the most traditional villages you will come across around Pelion. Located 32km from the city of Volos, and at an altitude of 450m, Vizitsa welcomes visitors with open arms, and happy smiles.

The village of Vizitsa has successfully managed to preserve the traditional style of architecture in the village, and maintain it's traditional values. The Greek National Tourist Organisation has played an important role in the preservation of Vizitsa. Exploring the village, you will see the many dominating and large old traditional houses and mansions.

These truely give one the sense of the important role that these villages played in Pelion during it's history. Vizitsa is a wonderful village to explore, and with the many cobble-stoned paths, one can wander around amongst the traditional buildings, and nature, and feel as though one has stepped back in time.

The beautiful scenery all around will inspire you, and you can feel the magic that so many have felt who have visited Pelion.

In Vizitsa, one should try and visit the monastery of Agios Ioannis Prothromos, which was built in 1789. There is also the church of Zoothohou Pigis ( which means the Life-Giving Stream ), which was built in 1725. There are also several festivals that take place every year in Vizitsa.

These include the day of Agion Anargiron, which takes place on July 1st, and the day of Panayia ( Virgin Mary ), which takes place on August 15th. Everyone is invited to join in with the festivities and enjoy the traditional Greek dance and music, as well as wine.

Vizitsa is also an ideal base from which one can explore the many other villages and areas of Pelion. With the ski centre of Agriolefkes close, as well as access to the many beautiful Pelion beaches, one can make the most out of their time spent here in Pelion.

One can take interesting and enjoyable walking trips from Vizitsa, via an old walking path about 1km in length, and end up at the train station of Milies, which is where you will find the famous steam train of Pelion.

There is another path, approx. 8km in length, which leads through the forest, where you can see the old church of Agii Taxiarhes, going through to Argireika and leads to the coastal resort of Kala Nera.

For the more adventurous, there is a path that goes through the forest and leads to Xourihti and Tsagarada, and from there to the delightful area of Milopotamos. There is also another path, which requires the services of a guide, which leads up to Hania and Agriolefkes.
